Amanda Reid

Amanda is a researcher with nearly 20 years of experience working in the social and health sectors, covering research and evaluation, service design and delivery, and management roles. She joined BERL in 2018 from the Institute of Directors, where she worked in the Governance Leadership Centre. Her Master’s thesis was on the measurement of wellbeing , and she is interested in the enablers of wellbeing for communities.

Her areas of expertise at BERL are the Māori economy, including indigenous trade and strengths-based Māori futures; workforce issues, including workforce development strategies and the value of diversity; and evaluation. She has significant experience in cross-cultural environments, with a deep respect for tikanga and kawa (whanaunatanga, manaakitanga, and tangata whenuatanga).

Amanda's skills:

• Research design and implementation, using integrative (qualitative and quantitative) research methodologies
• Monitoring and evaluation skills, including developing monitoring frameworks and systems, designing evaluation plans, and undertaking outcome and process evaluations (Member of Australia Evaluation Society)
• Stakeholder engagement and consultation, facilitating focus groups and workshops across public and private sectors with a variety of stakeholders
• Strategic and business planning, including undertaking environmental analysis, identifying strategic priorities, and developing action and operating plans
• Narrative analysis and writing, communicating complex information to a range of audiences.

Her experience includes:

• Te Ōhanga Māori with the Reserve Bank of New Zealand
• Migrants in the construction sector with Immigration New Zealand
• Engaged Communities – How community-led development can increase civic participation with the Helen Clark Foundation.

In her spare time, Amanda enjoys foreign films, playing bass and ukulele, and spending time with whānau.
