Economic impacts of licensing trusts – 3 case studies
Jiani Wu
Client: New Zealand Licensing Trusts Association (NZLTA) Authors: Jiani Wu, Dr Ganesh Nana
This project was commissioned by the New Zealand Licensing Trusts Association (NZLTA). The research provides estimates of the economic contribution of three selected licensing trusts to their respective local districts. Their economic contributions are presented in both value added (i.e. GDP) terms, as well as in employment terms. The economic contribution of licensing trusts arises from two distinct activities, that is:
1. the distribution of funds from the trusts
2. the operation of the businesses of the trusts (e.g. pubs, bars, motels/hotels)
The economic impacts from these two activities are assessed separately.
The three licensing trusts selected for this case study were: Masterton Licensing Trust et al (MLT), Invercargill Licensing Trust (ILT), and Clutha Licensing Trust (CLT). These were selected due primarily to the availability of easily accessible information. Job #: 4651
