Multipliers for the Biotech and Biotech-active Industry in New Zealand
David Norman
Client: New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Authors: David Norman, Dr Ganesh Nana The purpose of this project was to calculate multipliers for the biotech and biotech-active industry (“the biotech industry”) in New Zealand. This will enable New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) to better understand and assess the impact of the biotech industry on the New Zealand economy. The study found that, in line with international studies, the biotech industry is characterized by a high employment multiplier. This is because the industry is dominated by capital-intensive businesses and technologies, with large upstream and downstream expenditures. Job #: 4685
