BERL REPORT - Forest Industry Training Requirements to 2011
BERL and FITEC have been working closely to survey and review the training requirements for the forest industry to 2011. There was a strong response to the BERL FITEC Survey 2008, representing probably 50% to 60% of the industry.

Some of the key findings from the BERL FITEC Survey 2008 and review of the forest industry are:
• The industry places a high importance on most skills types, especially applied technical skills and soft skills like people skills and leadership skills.
• 37% of all firms said they are likely to expand in the next five years.
• Projections of additional employees needed show that approximately 600 to 1,000 additional people will be needed each year.
• Replacing employee turnover requires a further 4,000 people per year.
• Training needs will change to 2011 as the industry invests in innovation, automation, and production systems.
