Economic Impact of the Oil and Gas Sector on the Taranaki Region and New Zealand

Client: Venture Taranaki Trust

Date: September 2007

Author(s): Jason Leung-Wai, David Norman

This report provided an economic impact assessment of the oil and gas sector for the Taranaki region and New Zealand. It considered the sector’s impact on output, GDP and employment, as well as looking at the industries which supplied the sector and the industries most reliant on the sector to absorb their outputs.

The report further compared the contribution of oil and gas to the Taranaki economy with that of other sectors such as dairy and manufacturing. It gave examples of the effects on output, GDP and employment of the construction of various recent and ongoing oil and gas projects in the Taranaki region. It concluded by discussing particular businesses which rely on the oil and gas infrastructure.
