Scoping Study into Measuring New Zealand Philanthropy
Adrian Slack
Client: Philanthropy New Zealand Date: May 2006 Author(s): Adrian Slack, Jason Leung-Wai, Kel Sanderson, Dr Ganesh Nana This project provided background information on how to measure the economic contribution of philanthropy in New Zealand and designed a method for carrying out a measurement study. BERL worked closely with the Executive Director and Board of Philanthropy New Zealand (PNZ) to develop a definition of philanthropy that met PNZ’s research needs and which could underpin a set of robust quantitative measures. The study used the proposed definition to develop a method for measuring philanthropy, outlined the data required and scoped data availability. The research team presented the report to the Research Committee of PNZ’s Board and outlined options on how the research could proceed. PNZ commissioned BERL in mid-2006 to undertake a measurement study, which is due for completion in early 2007. BERL #4477
