Maori Regional Labour Markets

Client: Te Puni Kokiri

Date: June 2005

Author(s): Jason Leung-Wai; Dr Ganesh Nana

This project consists of a series of reports that culminate in a series of regional analyses of Maori labour markets.  An initial scoping report identifies existing information available on Maori labour markets.  The next report uses existing data and CGE modelling to estimate 2004 and project 2016 maori employment by industry and occupation group at a regional council level.  Individual reports for each regional council were then produced.

The information will allow TPK head office to understand maori labour markets and potential employment demand in the future.  It provides information for regional officers that will gives an initial estimate of how many and where maori are employed in their region.  This, combined with their intimate and ongoing understanding of their region can improve the information base for officers.
