Client:  Ministry of Research Science & Technology

Date: June 2004

Author(s): Brian Jameson; Jason Leung-Wai; Dr Ganesh Nana

This report explores the impact of a generic technology, wood drying, on the New Zealand economy.  Wood drying is a fundamental process in adding value to New Zealand's growing forest harvest with over 80% of exported sawn timber being kiln dried.  While efforts to quantify the contribution of this technology were difficult, the report demonstrated that wood drying technology played a key role in generating wealth from the forestry sector.
