Economic Impact of Seismic Isolation Technology

Client:  Ministry of Research Science & Technology

Date: June 2004

Author(s): Jason Leung-Wai; Dr Ganesh Nana

This report explores the impact of a generic technology, seismic isolation, on the New Zealand economy.  The main outcome of this report is the account of how this technology was developed and commercialised based upon the existing social, cultural and business environment at the time.  The analysis suggests that, even from a commercial perspective, the financial benefits are likely to outweigh the initial Government investment.  If the public and social benefits are taken into account then public investment in the technology is clearly supported.

A copy of the report in its entirety can be found on the MoRST website here.
